World Premiere of
"Made In China"
June 2007: Made in China premiered on June 10th at the 2007 Seattle International Film Festival to an enthusiastic audience and critical praise from The Seattle Times, Northwest Asian Weekly and The Stranger.
The film uncovers a tale of an unusual American childhood as filmmaker John Helde searches to understand his father’s past. Helde travels to China to learn about his father's childhood upbringing as an American growing up in 1930's China. The journey across the country — from modern Shanghai to industrial Changsha to a rugged mountain in Western Sichuan — becomes as much a journey through a state of mind, with new friends as tour guides, as it is an exploration of the meaning of home, what lasts, and what doesn’t.
